Mixed Media Canvas Art

Here is my third attempt at doing a piece of Mixed Media Canvas Art. The trouble is, while learning, I am struggling with my Virgo perfection side with my want to be free to do anything side.

I guess this is a compromises to both sides. Some parts are organized, others are not. Some day I will satisfy both sides. Hopefully in their own departments.

What Others Think

Here's a page I created using one of the 7 Rules of Life from WHISPER FROM THE HEART. I found the graphic on Pinterest.

Since I'm limited on my skills of writing by hand, I elected to use the printer to print the words on paper then cut them out. The flowers I drew freehand and colored with various markers. The background was painted with acrylic paints.

Red Sunset

Though it's been ages since I've posted on my blog, I haven't been idle. I'm still writing best selling books, making cards like crazy, but I've also invested some time for learning how to art journal. I have found art journaling has improved my two other creative sides.

What fun...and exciting.

Here's one of my art backgrounds. Believe me, most of the time, I'm designing from another ether world. Sometimes, though, I fall in love a piece of work designed by others and attempt to design my own version.

For all you wonderful creative people out there you're my inspiration. Thank you.

So...starting today, I am sharing my first one. I call this RED SUNSET. Since I like these colors so much, I probably won't do more with this page until I'm ready to move on. BIG GRIN

Tia Dani's Garden

Here is the delightful Popsicle Garden I made for Tia Dani's booksigning at the Glendale Chocolate Affaire (February 8,  9, & 10). We plan to hand out these candy flowers, along with other goodies to those who stop by to say hi. Grin...hopefully...we'll have some book sales as well. Once we have our site set up, I'll take extra pictures and post them here for you to see all our hard work.

I found the garden & flower template on SVGCUTS.COM It came in a kit with other fun items to make. The kit's name is "For My Valentine". If you have a cutting machine and a cutting program that can cut svg files on your computer, you should be able to make this cutie as well. I did tweak it a little to have it look the way I wanted. I added the butterfly and the sign on the side of the fence. The font I used for the sign can be found on daFont.com, the name is Cupid de Locke

I may be silent, but I'm still creating

I know I haven't been on much, but I have been busy with various projects.
Besides writing fiction, I've bounced between cards, to paper craft projects, to jewelry making.

Today I going to share a few jewelry projects. First is a necklace, bracelet and earring set.

Above is a Green Jasper set. Native Americans see jasper as a magical rain stone and also a powerful healing stone.Ancient Egyptians wore jasper scarabs as amulets as the stone was believed to increase sexual energy. Though it may seem in the picture here as a plain set, when worn against the skin, it is quite beautiful.

This is a crystal set. I am making it for my writing partner, Dani. She wanted a green crystal set. I included clear crystals for contrast, along with silver bead spacers. All I have to do now is size it exactly to her preference.


Normally I keep my jewelry simple, since I prefer simple things. Too elaborate, I'm more or less limited into wearing it.

That's it for now. I promise I'll be back soon. I have several things to show you. Earlier I would have shown you more cards I've made, but I need to write down all the items I used. For that I need to be organized. Whew. That I'm not. Patient, maybe, but organized...nope.

Where's My Stuff?

Would you believe I still haven't found all of my craft stuff after our move. SIGH...I am so disjointed these days, not to mention I think age has caught up with me...I can't remember anything. I will put something down, walk away, come back and forget where I put it. The worst thing about it is, it is usually sitting right in front of me and I STILL don't see it!

Enough of whining...although...it might help explain why I haven't been active for awhile. With so many things going on around me, I've been a bit lax in updating my blog. (Sorry about that.)

However, I have been making cards, but just haven't had time to load some of them here.  BUT...yesterday...I was quite proud of myself. I made a nice Father's Day card and had to share it.

I used a couple of Free Vintage Digital Stamps graphics. They were downloaded a while back, but I'm sure Pamela still has them on her site somewhere. She has quite a few awesome vintage graphics to choose from. I've always wanted to do a Vintage card, but could not wrap my brain around on what to do. Yesterday, like I said, I had an eureka moment.

Here's the card.

It's not an elaborately made card, but will be easy to mail. (usually I make most of my cards to be mailed without having to use a lot of postage.)

The font I used for the sentiment was Freehand591BT. Nestabilities: Fleur De Lis Rectangle to enhance our dapper, young gentleman.

Here's the inside of the card.

The quote I made was inspired by Clarence Budington Kelland's lovely words. I decided to change it so it would read more generic than personal. The card sender could add his or her personal comments below the quote.

Following is a PNG of the sentiment I made. The fonts used were Engraves MT and Budmo Jiggler.

To make the inside frame, I printed the sentiment onto cream paper then went to my Cricut and cut a 4x5 inch scalloped frame (Accent Essentials) around the sentiment.


Note: Using Cricut Design Studio, I typeset several different styles of inside frames and saved them all in a "Frames" file. That way I don't have to reinvent the wheel every time I need a certain color and shape to go inside one of my cards. If you have a Cricut and Cricut Design Studio and would like to have a copy of my frames, let me know.)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Oh dear, has it really been a month since I've last visited my site?

Lots of things have happened during that time. One major thing, my family moved again...which is unusual since I dislike pulling up stakes.

I'm what you call a "Nester". I love to nest. Put me anywhere and I'll settle in with glee...only don't ask me to do it A LOT and in a short period of time!!! When I set up a new nest I want to stay awhile. I want to play with my things, not spend time opening boxes and looking for some thing or another.

Actually the most used and most hated sentence in our family is..."It's somewhere...in some box."

Enough said of me. I want to wish everyone on a Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here is a card front I designed for the holiday. Feel free to download it if you so wish. It has been sized for a 4.25 x 5.5 card.
